SHELTER COVE

Shelter Cove Harbour

Mid-island, directly across from Palmetto Dunes, is Shelter Cove Harbour, one of the Island`s most beautiful attractions. Although located on the "sunset" side of the Island and sporting an entirely different personality, Shelter Cove is considered part of Palmetto Dunes. Shelter Cove`s residents and guests have access to the beaches and other amenities Palmetto Dunes has to offer. A bike path underneath the highway connects the two communities.

As you enter Shelter Cove Harbour, a towering bronze statue of King Neptune welcomes you. But look closely - it is actually a sundial, the largest working one of its kind. There is much to see here: A Mediterranean village of shops and restaurants, rocking chairs and benches for relaxing and for enjoying the ambience of its resident 15.5- acre marina, one of the Island`s largest.

In season, in addition to numerous watercraft, the Harbour offers live family entertainment at the Shelter Cove Gazebo along with a weekly fireworks display. At various other times throughout the year, a huge tent is erected and Shelter Cove plays host to community wine and food festivals.

Surrounding the marina are villas and low-rise condominium complexes. While most are on the short-term rental market, many who live here are attracted by the exquisite beauty of the setting and the sunsets - and make Shelter Cove Harbour their permanent or second home. Tennis courts, swimming pools and children`s play areas vary with each complex.

Shelter Cove Marina

Shelter Cove Harbour graciously hosts picturesque Shelter Cove Marina, Hilton Head Island`s largest deep-water yacht basin with 170 boat slips for boats up to 120 feet in length. Every conceivable water sport may be enjoyed here, from deep-sea and inshore fishing charters to sport crabbing, sail and power boat rentals, sightseeing and nature excursions and dinner cruises. Daily, weekly and annual dockage rates are available.

THE RESIDENTS

While Shelter Cove is a favorite for visitors to Hilton Head Island, a significant number of people make it their permanent or second home.
