Palmetto Hall

One of the newer residential communities on Hilton Head Island, is Palmetto Hall, a private neighborhood of lush, mature landscaping, meticulously manicured golf courses and lovely homes. Located on the north end of the island, all structures within this 750-acre plantation are reminiscent of the old South. Shady verandas, soaring columns and colorful shutters are the norm. Homes within the plantation are single-family structures and border on either of Palmetto Halls’ two Championship golf courses. The plantation boasts one of the lowest ratios of homes to golf courses on the entire Island.

In addition to golf, residents enjoy full Palmetto Hall Club membership and benefits that include a full-service Lowcountry-style clubhouse plus a large community swimming pool, children`s playground, tennis courts and a barbecue area. There are stocked freshwater lakes for fishing, a 100+ acre nature preserve and a community recreation field.

Location is key to Palmetto Hall residents. The plantation is adjacent to the Hilton Head Medical Center and Clinics campus, the Hilton Head Airport and the Hilton Head Library. The beach is one mile from the plantation and shopping facilities are nearby.

Two hard-surface tennis courts are available at the clubhouse.

GOLF

Designer Arthur Hills created Palmetto Hall’s first course, a gracefully sculpted masterpiece rated one of the nation`s "Top Ten New Resort Course" in 1991 and one of Hilton Head Island`s "Top Three Layouts" by Golf Magazine. Both courses are open to the public.

ARTHUR HILLS COURSE - This is a newer course on Hilton Head Island by this noted designer and it is every bit as testing as its big brother at Palmetto Dunes. Hills has made effective use of the meandering marshes and wetlands and the result is a terrific track. Opened in 1992, it quickly established itself as a "must play" on Hilton Head. It grabs your attention from the outset with the #1 handicap hole on the first hole! The golfer must look with consideration at every shot on this course. The forced carries and water intrusions are obvious but the mounding in fairways and rough will demand more than a few awkward shot set-ups if care is not taken. The greens are all undulating and expert "reads" are an integral part of this course. The par 5`s are classic "risk / reward" type holes and the finishing hole is truly memorable as it doglegs along a long lagoon that finishes green side.

ROBERT CUPP COURSE - This course has been publicized since its opening in the mid-90`s for its unique geometric shaped bunkers and mounds. This is a course that requires a yardage book and pinpoint shot placement. It is rated as one of the toughest courses in the area from the back tees with a slope of 140. The golfer must look closely at the pitch of many fairways to avoid hazards through excessive roll. Greens bordered with railroad ties supporting them above lagoons and marsh are prevalent and thus, club selection is mandatory on these holes.
