MOSS CREEK PLANTATION

While geographically situated just off the bridge in Bluffton, Moss Creek has a Hilton Head mailing address as well as close proximity to the resort island's amenities and the burgeoning number of shops and services of Bluffton. Yet behind plantation gates, life is ever so secure and tranquil.

The residents of Moss Creek live in a lush natural setting, experience a host of resort-class amenities and enjoy a reputation as one of the most affordable private golf communities in the area. It's no wonder why so many choose Moss Creek Plantation as their primary or secondary home.

Shaded by towering pecan trees, you immediately notice the Moss Creek difference as you enter, passing the marquee-waterfall. On your left, horses graze near the stables of the Equestrian Center. No other plantation welcomes you as dramatically. As you wend your way through roadways shaded with moss-covered oaks, you observe magnificent marsh views and the water vistas of the Intracoastal Waterway. Bird sanctuaries and wildlife areas can also be found deep within the private 1,068- acre enclave.

In addition to its extraordinary setting, there are the amenities. Moss Creek property owners receive automatic membership in a golf club that features two championship Tom Fazio courses. An added bonus is the low ratio of members to tee times. Rarely is there a scheduling problem. Social life centers around the new 14,000 square foot clubhouse that not only offers a breathtaking salt marsh view but a fine dining facility and an ever-changing calendar of events. Miles of bicycle and forest trails, multiple tennis facilities, a waterfront swimming pool, community pavilion, the equestrian center and private marina complete the list.

MOSS CREEK OWNERS' ASSOCIATION

GOLF

The South Course played host to an annual tournament on the LPGA Tour from 1976 to 1985. In 1996 both courses underwent extensive renovation.

Devil's Elbow South - Tom Fazio, one of the eminent golf course designers in America, planned this course early in his career and his effort may have helped advance his rise to top architect fame. Planned in 1970, this course still commands respect. Amidst beautiful marsh vistas and stands of towering pines and oaks, the golfer quickly sees that shot placement rather than distance is critical. Lay-up shots for position are often the best choice yet Fazio has seductively included holes that lure the golfer to "go for it!" The contour of the greens is especially noteworthy. The back nine opens up but vast marshes lurk throughout and become simply another form of shot placement. An ideal challenge with course management, absolutely essential!

Devil's Elbow North - When Fazio returned in 1979 to design the second Moss Creek course, he excelled once again. While some regard the North course as a bit easier and more open, it tests the golfer in a different manner. Doglegs demand tee shots that set up the second shot. Broad fairways, particularly on the back nine, have traps, large overhanging trees and sizable stretches of marsh and wetlands that can gobble up all but the truest shots. The par 3's are most exacting and pars will not come easily. The finishing holes, especially in fading light, are magnificent to the eye and a thrill to the golfer. This is a course that can be enjoyed again and again without boredom.
